Dirty Girls do it on the Lake!

Have you been wondering what a Lake Yak really is?  Well, it is wonderful!  Recently, Dirty Girl Adventures has offered 4 Lake Yak opportunities and there are  more to come.  What does a Lake Yak entail?  Dirty Girl Adventures provides the equipment (kayaks, life preservers and paddles) as well as the muscle needed to lift, haul and otherwise schlep the equipment to and from the lake.  You get to … gain paddling experience, build some muscle, chat with friends and family, enjoy the water, relax, breathe, float!  You can reserve a spot on a scheduled Lake Yak or you can contact Dirty Girl Adventures to schedule a time that works for you.

It should be noted that the weather and time of day have significant impact on the type of Lake Yak experience you might have!  However, the bottom line is that you WILL enjoy yourself!  The Lake Yak is a great way to gain confidence on the water in a kayak.  When we take a River Run, you are committed to 3-5 hours on the water – unless you really want to paddle upstream!  Although I have never had a person absolutely hate kayaking, if you are unsure or anxious, the Lake Yak is a great test run. Dirty Girl Adventures will give you basic instruction and support throughout your entire Adventure!

An evening Lake Yak offers the added benefit of watching the sun go down on the water.  Kansas is a beautiful place!

The chance to float and chat with your Dirty Friends is an invaluable way to nurture your spirit!  Relax and refresh on the water!

Watch for more scheduled Lake Yaks by subscribing to this website for email updates or contact Denise the Original Dirty Girlfor more information on scheduling your own Lake Yak!  A minimum of 5 participants is required for a private Lake Yak and the cost is $20 per person.  If you’d like to linger around the campfire when you are off the water, an additional charge will provide food for your group.  Email Denise today deniseselbeekoch@gmail.com!

Come outside with Dirty Girl Adventures!

Hot Times: A Kansas River Run SOLD OUT!!

Yes, it’s time for some Hot Times on the Kansas River!  The First Float was in June and the River was fabulous!  A good flow rate and lots of sunshine were ingredients in our day.  Those ingredients combined with great company brought good times to the 48 paddlers who ventured out with Dirty Girl Adventures.  We are looking forward to Hot Times River Run on Sunday July 27th, 2014!

We are currently planning to explore a different section of the Kansas River – from the Seward Boat Ramp in Topeka to Rising Sun River Access in Lecompton .  This 12.7 mile long paddle will take 4 – 5 hours depending on the amount of time we choose to dally on the sand bars.  Yoga, anyone?  This section of the river does have a low head dam near the Tecumseh Power Plant – it is easy to go over through a middle section at normal or low river flow rates.  Dirty Girl Adventures will determine the safety of this passage before the Hot Times River Run begins.

Paddlers will need to meet at the Rising Sun River Access to leave their vehicles and catch the standing room only Redy2Party Bus for a ride to the Seward Boat Ramp. Own your own kayak? Plan to drop your gear with the Dirty Minions at Seward then head to Rising Sun for a packed bus ride!

There are  32 single person kayaks and 2 – 2 person tandem kayaks available for the Hot Times River Run.  Seats are first come, first served.  The payment buttons will be removed when the maximum number of people have registered.  A waiting list will be started in case registered paddlers need to cancel.  Refunds will be given for cancellations through July 21st.  After July 21st, refunds will only be given if Dirty Girl Adventures can re-sell your spot.

Dirty Girl Adventures has the right to cancel this event due to weather or water conditions up to the day of the River Run.  Refunds will be given if Dirty Girl Adventures chooses to cancel.  Cancellation will be due to safety concerns – please feel confident that Dirty Girl Adventures are making every effort to ensure your safety on the river.  Dirty Girl Adventures reserves the right to refuse service to anyone.

Gear to bring:  WATER, sunscreen, hearty snacks and a lunch, water, sunscreen, old tennis shoes or water shoes, hat, beverages of your choice, your favorite life jacket if you have one otherwise you can use a DGA floatation device 😀

First Float a Fabulous Time!

Well, the official First Float of Dirty Girl Adventures went off without a hitch!  All 45 Dirty Paddlers had a great time on the Kaw!  After all the rain, the Kansas River was back to normal just in time for the First Float!  Although the put in spot at Rising Sun River Access was a little extra muddy …

Once we were on the water we were mud free and happy!  We paddled, floated and socialized along the river.  It was a great day for getting to know new friends!

We stopped to check out the sandbars along the way, found a few fossils and had some good conversation!  Much sunscreen was used by most!  Others will use more next time!

Kayaking the Kansas River is a relaxing adventure.  It is the opportunity to fall in love with the gorgeous scenery, the feel of the breeze on your skin and the slight burn of your muscles as you paddle into the wind.  It is also a time for fun and play with friends.

Thanks to all who came out!  It was a gorgeous day on the river!  Looking forward to many more small group river runs this summer as well as the July large group adventure HOT TIMES!  On July 27th, 2014 we will go from the Seward Street Boat Ramp in Topeka to Lecompton to see another section of the Might Kaw!  Check your calendars and look for registration to open soon!
