Dirty Girls Go All the Way! REGISTRATION CLOSED! :D

It’s time!  We’ve been hiking and moving our bodies for months now and it’s time to go all the way!  All the way around the Perry Lake Trail that is!  This is a really cool trail and the company can’t be beat!  This is NOT a race!  Our anticipated pace for the duration is a 30 minute mile.  This is an event to celebrate our love of the outdoors while simultaneously celebrating our ability to endure and sustain physical activity for a long time!  We will see many interesting sights and enjoy the time with our Dirty compadres! We will spend Columbus Day weekend, October 11th and 12th hiking the distance!  This event is open to every Dirty Peep!  Dirty Girls, Dirty Dudes and Dirty Teens.DSC_0165

We will begin early Saturday morning by setting up camp at Slough Creek Campground then we will load up the party bus and head for the Old Military Trail Head!  We will hike the west side of the trail on Saturday – from The Old Military Trail Head to Slough Creek Campground.  Dirty Minions will monitor our camp while we hike, keeping the fire burning at base camp.  On the trail, we will have a delicious boxed lunch at the 8 mile mark.  We will end at base camp with showers, a fire and a hot dinner!  After a great night at base camp, we will wake up, get a good breakfast then hop the party bus back to the Old Military Trail Head to hike the east side of the Perry Lake Trail.  We will have another great lunch on the trail.  When we get back to base camp, we will break camp and celebrate our accomplishment (then go home and shower!)

This trail includes rocky, hilly steep inclines and declines.  There will be brush, poison ivy and bugs.  The distance is not the only challenge – a good portion of the trail is decidedly technical in nature.  Signing up for this event indicates your understanding of the challenges in terrain, distance and weather.  The event will occur regardless of temperature – cancellation will occur only with severe weather.

Dirty Girls REFRESH! A retreat!

It is time to take a breath, chillax and renew our energy.  It’s time to REFRESH!  Join the Dirty Girls for a sweet day of rejuvenation and REFRESH yourself with all the awesome activities we have planned.  We will nurture our beautiful souls with a free flowing day of art, yoga, small water paddling, a delicious healthy lunch and snacks, hiking, special programing and education about self care from certified marriage and family therapist Vickie Hull.  The goal is for you to leave feeling refreshed at the end of the day with a “toolbox” full of tools for you to “REFRESH!” at will within your daily life!  Practice giving yourself the time and space to breathe deeply and love your life!  After we make it through the transition of back to school, we will need this serious moment of relaxation!

There are three strands that will be addressed within the day – physical health, social/emotional health and spiritual health.  We will spend some time on each of these areas but the bottom line is that the free flowing structure of the day will allow each Dirty Girl to gravitate to the activity that they need the most.  This will be a lovely day of personal reflection and rejuvenation.  I, for one, am looking forward to this day of down time! Join us for a day of taking care of yourself.  We can’t take care of others if we don’t take care of ourselves!

2nd Annual Ass Kicker! SOLD OUT!!!!

In order to register for this BIG event, you must meet the following requirements:

Be a member of the Dirty Girls Club.

Have paddled down the Kansas River at least once this summer.

Promise that you are up to a potentially tough challenge of paddling all day!  ie: no whining, once you are in you are committed!

This run will be from Lawrence to DeSoto, a total of 20 miles!  The Kansas River will likely running low and slow and the temps will no doubt be toasty hot!  This is totally doable but the tough part is predicting the weather and the water.  If the river stays low and slow, no rain, big wind, hot sun… super ass kicker!  If we get some rain and the day is a.m.a.z.i.n.g. we will be sitting pretty!  We won’t know until the day of the event!  Sunday, August 24th – OYO’s will drop gear in Lawrence at the 8th Street Boat Ramp at 9am, we will meet in DeSoto at 9:30 to catch the Party Bus getting on the water around 10am.  We will plan for 8-10 hours of paddling, depending on the weather and conditions, so we’ll be off the water by 8:30 at the latest – sun down.

Only 20 kayaks will be available and 10 spots for Own Your Own -30 Dirty Girls plus the Dirty Mamas and the Dirty Mutha!  😀

Your fee will include an amazing t-shirt (“I kicked ass with the Dirty Girls!” “2nd Annual Ass Kicker – 20 Miles on the Kaw 8-24-14” and some coolio graphics!)

We will do lots of stopping to stretch and play – yoga is a good relief when yaking down the river!

Details!

Hot Times were had by all!

Last Sunday a group of about 40 paddlers set out for a paddle from Lecompton to Lawrence on the Mighty Kaw.  The river was running low and slow so we were ready to paddle!  Happily, the day wasn’t incredibly hot and the wind was a breeze instead of a gale!

This summer has been full of kayaking and getting to know sooo many new Dirty Girls!  It has been wonderful to meet and begin friendships with so many women who are energized and ready for Outdoor Adventure!

Every trip down the river is a new and different experience.  The variables are constant — water flow, water level, people in the group, sand bars, fossils, wild life — each trip is a special event.

Kayaking on the river brings a relaxation of both the body and the mind.  It is a great way to spend the day.
