Come out to hike with the Dirty Girls and see some Eagles!
A chilly but scenic time to hike, February is THE prime time to see American Bald Eagles in their natural habitat – right here in Kansas!
We will assess the weather and choose our distance and specific location accordingly as we get closer to the date. This will be a progressive hike! On Saturday February 28th, we will meet at the Crooked Post Winery in Ozawkie at 9:30am to load the party bus then progress to first one, then a second hiking and viewing location. We anticipate that hikes at both locations will be 3 miles or less for a total of approximately 6 miles, but our final decision on locations and distance will be based on weather. This entire event will be appropriate for beginners of all ages. While we will NOT be on any paved trails but the terrain will be natural, through the woods or fields but NOT technical, extremely steep or rocky. Plan to bring water, snacks or lunch to eat throughout the day. You will also need to dress in layers and wear clothing appropriate for the weather on the day of the hike.
After hiking and viewing, we will return to the winery around 1:30ish to warm up and socialize a bit. We will provide some tasty snacks and hot chocolate post-hike. The Crooked Post Winery will be open for your tasting pleasure as well! Check them out herewww.crookedpostvineyard.com!
What to Bring: Comfy shoes, dress in layers, bring your own snacks/lunch, water, bring your camera, bring binoculars
As we spend time planning for our 2015 Adventure Season, with a bit of down time inside this winter, our thought and actions turn introspective. At Dirty Girl Adventures, we hope to plan events and activities with a mindful purpose towards meeting our needs and the needs of others. It’s true everyone is different. However, we believe that there are certain themes that work (in one way or another) to help everyone grow and be strong in body and spirit.
One of the themes we are focusing on this year is creativity. Humans are creative beings. We express ourselves through our creativity! We dance, sing, cook, write, take pictures, rebuild an antique trunk, refinish an old canoe,
scrapbook, decorate, paint, garden or landscape, put together model trains, make soap or get unique tattoos . . . The ways to be creative are as varied as each of us. Our creativity is an expression of our originality.
Expressing the creativity inside of us can help us stay mindful of how unique and valuable we each are. The way you express your creativity is yours alone, not to be compared to another. Creativity is important; it is part of being human.
Dirty Girl Adventures has mindfully planned the Custom Collage Workshop to help you release your inner creativity! The collage activity has helped us express our creativity in many ways. We believe in the power of words, and using positive “self talk” is integral in maintaining and developing a positive self-image. We believe in the practice of using words to strengthen heart and soul. In our society, words are often used in negative ways. Most people have negative thoughts, self-doubt, and negative self-talk about themselves or life in general. These worries and anxieties can get out of hand, and words are a tool to regain control.
Your collage is an opportunity to place positive words into your view everyday. When you display your artwork, you will see the words everyday, and each day, the art and the words on it, will help you focus on the positive, integrating positive self-talk into your thoughts and days. Whether it is through the collage project or through some other creative process, we encourage you to surround yourself with positive self-talk and unleash the power of your own creativity!
The second theme that we believe is integral in our lives, is the power we get from connecting to nature. We could quote pages of research that tell us humans who connect with nature feel less depressed, less stressed and less anxious (we have experienced this phenomenon), but we all know spending time in nature rejuvenates, refreshes and refocuses most humans. You might like to hike, run, bike, kayak, swim, walk, picnic, sit, lounge, camp, even hunt, but the bottom line is that getting outside brings power back to our being.
You might choose to go outside alone or with others, to complete a task or to revel in the beauty of nature, either way you will feel rejuvenated. It takes some time to catch the feeling – sometimes when we are stressed, depressed, angry or anxious we just go – moving through the woods or along the lake. At first, it is just our habit to go, but gradually, the feeling of relief and rejuvenation slips in and the tense feeling starts to release, the clouded thought processes begin to clear. It is the power of connecting with nature. Find the way that works for you, we believe that you will find several! We have also found that feeling connected to others who feel connected to nature is a pretty good feeling too!
Dirty Girl Adventures strives to provide opportunities for creativity and connectivity! Come on an adventure with us this season, or join the Dirty Girl Club, we are working hard to create excellent opportunities for you!
2014 was full of some excellent adventures and great surprises. 2015 will be even better here at Dirty Girl Adventures! After a full year of existence, we will be more prepared, better organized and … more creative than ever at getting you and yours outside!
There are so many great places to visit and so many great people to meet that 2015 will be full of adventure. We are currently looking forward to our Custom Collage Workshop on January 11th. Pondering our vision for life in 2015, we decided that an inspirational and motivational collage would help us maintain focus on what is good.
Collaging is creative, fun and a thought process along the way! Dirty Girls who attend Refresh! our Retreat last fall enjoyed creating collages.
We are also really, really looking forward to our April Dirty Girls Get Away at the fabulous Lied Lodge and gorgeous Indian Cave State Park in Nebraska! Although it is several months away, the anticipation of a get away weekend in an awesome place with awesome women is already building!
This is the lobby of the Lied Lodge! Pretty gorgeous! It is owned and operated by the Arbor Day Foundation so it seems like a perfect place for a Dirty Girl Get Away!
We started the year off with an excellent “First Day Hike” at Perry State Hiking Biking Trails. 40 Dirty Peeps and Pets came together to start the New Year off on the trail! Great turn out and great morning to get our blood moving – it was 9*!! Think about the ways that you can get outside to move, to connect and to enjoy the world this year! What will you do this year? My goal is to hike 500 trail miles this year! I like goals that are positive, motivating and attainable. (Instead of those annoying goals that essentially say I’m not good enough the way I am right now!) I’m looking forward to focusing on the people and activities that I truly love and enjoy. I am cutting out some of the things that I no longer love doing so that I can more fully enjoy the things I love and want to do now. I acknowledge that even the things we love take work and are sometimes really challenging and miserable but even misery is better when it is attached to something we truly care about and love. We hope that you are able to find and cherish the people and activities that you love with quality time this year!
We also hope that you will include a plan to come outside with Dirty Girl Adventures this year. We can’t wait to see you! It’s going to be a great year!
