It’s the 8-mile hike to top off the spring hiking season. This will be a great hike as the woods come to life with fresh green buds and blooms. Enjoy the afternoon and evening with your Dirty Peeps as we tramp through the forest, over hill and dale and ending with some great food and social time to celebrate our accomplishment. We anticipate ending around the fire about 6:30 or 7:00pm. This is a rough trail with rocks, steep inclines and declines. Short loop – 3 miles – available as well. Registration open to Dirty Girls and Dirty Dudes. Dinner will be served around the fire. Bring a chair and your beverage of choice for time around the campfire. This hike is located at the Perry Lake Hiking Biking Trails accessible via 74th street. Detailed directions and waiver will arrive via email before the hike.
What is the Spring Fling? It’s an 8 mile hike along the Perry Lake Trail! The section that we will be hiking on March 28th, includes both fields and woodlands as we travel along the side of Lake Perry. Below are all the Dirty Peeps who hiked with us on our very first hike last March 2014! We had a great time! Although we won’t be hiking the same section of the Perry Lake Trail, I bet we will have another great time! This hike is open to all Dirty Peeps – Dudes, Kids (must be able to hike 8 miles) and, of course, Dirty Girls!
The trail is rough and uneven with mild inclines/declines along the way. We will expect to travel at a pace of about a 30 minute mile – give or take! We will pause for snacks, rest and scenic views along the way!
When: Saturday March 28th, 2015
Time: Check-in between 9am and 9:30am
Pre-Register by 3-20! $25 Regular Peeps, $20 Club Members (Includes bus ride, trail guide and support, snacks at the end) REGISTER HERE on the Dirty Shop under Events! Refunds are not available after the 20th as the bus and food will have been paid for by that date!
Where: The Slough Creek Campground Group Camp Area at Lake Perry!
Wear/Bring: Plan to wear long pants regardless of temperature. The Perry Lake Trail is a wilderness trail and there will be brushy sections. Bring water and snacks for along the trail If you don’t have a hydration pack, a string bag or small back pack would be handy for water and a few good snacks. Remember, we will be hiking 8 miles, that’s a lot of calories and energy expended. You need both protein and some sugar to keep your energy flowing – good protein bars, trail mix, an apple!
The Basic Plan: We will have feet on the trail by 10am and we should be relaxing around the campfire with some food and BYO beverages by 2ish. Dirty Girl Adventures will furnish a variety of snacks and water at the Campfire. Plan to bring snacks and water for the hike! You may choose to bring adult beverages to enjoy at the end of the hike. Please plan to bring a chair for around the campfire!
A variety of shirts will be available on the day of the event!
Last year it was pretty chilly – who knows what this year will bring!
Scenes from the trail 2014! It is already greener than last year was!
We will be doing a different 8 mile section of the Perry Lake Trail than we did last March. This section will take us from the north end of the trail back to Slough Creek Campground for hanging out by the fire. We will make a stop at this awesome rock beach!
There is exactly one month left to register (Deadline March 16th) for the amazing, first of its kind – Dirty Girls’ Get Away which is scheduled for April 17th, 18th and 19th! We will be visiting the Lied Lodge in Nebraska City, Nebraska. It is a gorgeous and comfortable lodge with many amenities!
From gorgeous rooms, great food, pool, jacuzzi, spa and wines made on site at the Arbor Day Farm! In fact, I’m hoping to participate in the Friday night wine tasting that they offer – $5 for 4 tastes – surely I’ll find one I like!
We will spend Friday evening relaxing and socializing in the Lied Lodge. As is usual with us Dirty Girls, the Tribal Gathering and social time will be divine! We will share some life stories and encouragement as we prepare for a day of hiking on Saturday. Our goal is to build you up and encourage you to challenge yourself to enjoy new adventures! Doesn’t this little spot look like a nice place to hang out and chat with some Dirty Girls?
Saturday, after a delicious breakfast, we will carpool to “Nebraska’s best kept secret” Indian Cave State Park!
We will spend Saturday hiking the trails along the Mighty Missouri River. The hills and bluffs offer excellent views from the 25 miles of trails throughout the park. The Dirty Mama’s have mapped out a hike that can accommodate the short hiker and the long hiker! We will enjoy a boxed lunch on the trail (included in your cost and furnished by the Lied Lodge).
I enjoyed a great weekend with my wonderful friends last year which is when the plan for this Dirty Girl Get Away was hatched! Although we camped, we experienced a pretty cold night and lots of blowing dirt so we thought that it would be well worth it to combine comfort with our outdoor adventure! The packages that we have created are designed to meet the financial situation of a variety of Dirty Girls. (This is a Dirty Girl only event – no Dudes – but it is open to both club members and others.) The packages all include lodging, breakfast in the mornings Saturday and Sunday, Saturday lunch and dinner with one beverage. If you can’t get away on Friday, it is a short 2 hour drive to join us Saturday morning!
For the short hikers, local exploration in Indian Cave State Park includes a variety of pretty cool spots that you can visit with MacGyver Julie while the long hikers keep moving. The day should be beautiful! After a full day, we will return to the Lied Lodge for some chillaxing and a delicious dinner in the Timber Lodge (instead of a tent!)!
We will provide a really cool commemorative craft during the evening hours as well as some quality social time with a focus on self-care and refreshing your spirit! Sunday morning, we will leisurely enjoy breakfast together, then enjoy a relaxing hike into the Arbor Day Farm Grounds to visit the Treehouse 50 feet in the air! It looks SO cool! Then we will all head home, refreshed and rejuvenated (oh, who am I kidding we will most likely be a bit tired from such an awesome time!).
Check out this event in the Dirty Shop and get signed up now! You can choose the package that best fits you. Make a plan and sign up with a roommate or for the Deluxe Solo Package. All the details are available here!
Hope you can join us! Questions? Email me at email@example.com!
I had the opportunity to pop the kayak into the Delaware River a couple of weeks ago. It was a beautiful day and we enjoyed great company on the water! We also saw this guy along the river banks. He was posing just for us!
What a response, our Eagle Hike on February 28th is FULL! We have mapped out two spots to take you that will provide some opportunity for quiet observation and watching Eagles as well as longer hiking. We aim to please but please know that we can’t guarantee Eagle sightings! It is MOST likely that we will see Eagles! The Dirty Girl Club took a hike last weekend and we spotted 12 eagles, some of them up close!
Dirty Girl Photographer Kembry Gibbs has taken some excellent photos and was willing to share them with me! She is a patient watcher and has observed Eagles at play, feeding and taking care of the nest. We are hoping to see some of these same activities on the 28th.
If you didn’t get signed up for this hike, take some time to wander around both Clinton Lake and Perry Lake looking for Eagles! There are now many nesting pairs and plenty of juveniles flying around the lower 48 states and even here in Kansas! There are also some other interesting sights to be seen OUTSIDE so get out there and take a hike!
If you don’t want to miss the next Dirty Girl Adventure, sign up now in the Dirty Shop! There is an 8 Mile Hike on March 28th scheduled and BIG EXCITEMENT there is a Dirty Girl Get Away scheduled at the Lied Lodge and Indian Cave State Park in Nebraska in April (April 17th and 18th) and the Down and Dirty 3 Mile is April 25th! Get on over to the Dirty Shop and take a look!
2014 was full of some excellent adventures and great surprises. 2015 will be even better here at Dirty Girl Adventures! After a full year of existence, we will be more prepared, better organized and … more creative than ever at getting you and yours outside!
There are so many great places to visit and so many great people to meet that 2015 will be full of adventure. We are currently looking forward to our Custom Collage Workshop on January 11th. Pondering our vision for life in 2015, we decided that an inspirational and motivational collage would help us maintain focus on what is good.
Collaging is creative, fun and a thought process along the way! Dirty Girls who attend Refresh! our Retreat last fall enjoyed creating collages.
We are also really, really looking forward to our April Dirty Girls Get Away at the fabulous Lied Lodge and gorgeous Indian Cave State Park in Nebraska! Although it is several months away, the anticipation of a get away weekend in an awesome place with awesome women is already building!
This is the lobby of the Lied Lodge! Pretty gorgeous! It is owned and operated by the Arbor Day Foundation so it seems like a perfect place for a Dirty Girl Get Away!
We started the year off with an excellent “First Day Hike” at Perry State Hiking Biking Trails. 40 Dirty Peeps and Pets came together to start the New Year off on the trail! Great turn out and great morning to get our blood moving – it was 9*!! Think about the ways that you can get outside to move, to connect and to enjoy the world this year! What will you do this year? My goal is to hike 500 trail miles this year! I like goals that are positive, motivating and attainable. (Instead of those annoying goals that essentially say I’m not good enough the way I am right now!) I’m looking forward to focusing on the people and activities that I truly love and enjoy. I am cutting out some of the things that I no longer love doing so that I can more fully enjoy the things I love and want to do now. I acknowledge that even the things we love take work and are sometimes really challenging and miserable but even misery is better when it is attached to something we truly care about and love. We hope that you are able to find and cherish the people and activities that you love with quality time this year!
We also hope that you will include a plan to come outside with Dirty Girl Adventures this year. We can’t wait to see you! It’s going to be a great year!
Currently, these are the 2015 Scheduled Adventures! Links to register will become available as the time for each event draws near. Meanwhile, mark your calendar and call your Dirty Girls to make a plan!

We will assess the weather and choose our distance and specific locations accordingly as we get closer to the date. For now, plan to set aside 10am – 3pm for some quality time! Our goal at this time would be to meet at 10am and get our feet on the trail by 10:30am. We will likely travel about 3 miles then load up to carpool to our next location for another 3 miles. We may stop at a couple of excellent viewing spots as well. Most likely our total hiking distance will be 6-8 miles with at least one “warm up” time in the car as we travel to the next viewing/hiking spot. This is the view from the trail heading out of Longview Camp!
Hello Dirty Girls! We have been hitting the trail pretty frequently lately. The weather is finally changing into fall and the trail is extra appealing at this time of year. I love the cooler weather. I also love the leaves falling and the sunlight filtering through onto the trail. When I am out in the woods, moving and breathing I fill full of life and joy. Saturday we hiked/jogged about five miles then some of us did a short three mile mountain bike ride. It was an excellent venture and while we were physically challenged it felt great!
Dirty Girl Adventures is progressing and taking form. An actual written down business plan is making it’s way out of my brain! The logo is almost done which will give rise to business cards, brochures and flyers! Not to mention some pretty cool swag! Everyone wants a Dirty Girl Adventures shirt! I am very excited about the Half Day on the Trail event that is coming up October 13th! I am actually getting ready to head out there this afternoon to do a test run on the trail. I am sure that it is overgrown in some places and it would no doubt be a bummer to get lost in the woods with a lot of dirty girls! Here is a shot from the trail we will be hiking. There are gorgeous views along the lake!
Hope you are feeling strong and spending some time each day doing something that makes you feel alive and full of joy!
(This is just a happy fall sunset. Light is fading earlier and earlier, better get outside now or find a head lamp!)
