There is exactly one month left to register (Deadline March 16th) for the amazing, first of its kind – Dirty Girls’ Get Away which is scheduled for April 17th, 18th and 19th! We will be visiting the Lied Lodge in Nebraska City, Nebraska. It is a gorgeous and comfortable lodge with many amenities!
From gorgeous rooms, great food, pool, jacuzzi, spa and wines made on site at the Arbor Day Farm! In fact, I’m hoping to participate in the Friday night wine tasting that they offer – $5 for 4 tastes – surely I’ll find one I like!
We will spend Friday evening relaxing and socializing in the Lied Lodge. As is usual with us Dirty Girls, the Tribal Gathering and social time will be divine! We will share some life stories and encouragement as we prepare for a day of hiking on Saturday. Our goal is to build you up and encourage you to challenge yourself to enjoy new adventures! Doesn’t this little spot look like a nice place to hang out and chat with some Dirty Girls?
Saturday, after a delicious breakfast, we will carpool to “Nebraska’s best kept secret” Indian Cave State Park!
We will spend Saturday hiking the trails along the Mighty Missouri River. The hills and bluffs offer excellent views from the 25 miles of trails throughout the park. The Dirty Mama’s have mapped out a hike that can accommodate the short hiker and the long hiker! We will enjoy a boxed lunch on the trail (included in your cost and furnished by the Lied Lodge).
I enjoyed a great weekend with my wonderful friends last year which is when the plan for this Dirty Girl Get Away was hatched! Although we camped, we experienced a pretty cold night and lots of blowing dirt so we thought that it would be well worth it to combine comfort with our outdoor adventure! The packages that we have created are designed to meet the financial situation of a variety of Dirty Girls. (This is a Dirty Girl only event – no Dudes – but it is open to both club members and others.) The packages all include lodging, breakfast in the mornings Saturday and Sunday, Saturday lunch and dinner with one beverage. If you can’t get away on Friday, it is a short 2 hour drive to join us Saturday morning!
For the short hikers, local exploration in Indian Cave State Park includes a variety of pretty cool spots that you can visit with MacGyver Julie while the long hikers keep moving. The day should be beautiful! After a full day, we will return to the Lied Lodge for some chillaxing and a delicious dinner in the Timber Lodge (instead of a tent!)!
We will provide a really cool commemorative craft during the evening hours as well as some quality social time with a focus on self-care and refreshing your spirit! Sunday morning, we will leisurely enjoy breakfast together, then enjoy a relaxing hike into the Arbor Day Farm Grounds to visit the Treehouse 50 feet in the air! It looks SO cool! Then we will all head home, refreshed and rejuvenated (oh, who am I kidding we will most likely be a bit tired from such an awesome time!).
Check out this event in the Dirty Shop and get signed up now! You can choose the package that best fits you. Make a plan and sign up with a roommate or for the Deluxe Solo Package. All the details are available here!
Hope you can join us! Questions? Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org!
I had the opportunity to pop the kayak into the Delaware River a couple of weeks ago. It was a beautiful day and we enjoyed great company on the water! We also saw this guy along the river banks. He was posing just for us!
What a response, our Eagle Hike on February 28th is FULL! We have mapped out two spots to take you that will provide some opportunity for quiet observation and watching Eagles as well as longer hiking. We aim to please but please know that we can’t guarantee Eagle sightings! It is MOST likely that we will see Eagles! The Dirty Girl Club took a hike last weekend and we spotted 12 eagles, some of them up close!
Dirty Girl Photographer Kembry Gibbs has taken some excellent photos and was willing to share them with me! She is a patient watcher and has observed Eagles at play, feeding and taking care of the nest. We are hoping to see some of these same activities on the 28th.
If you didn’t get signed up for this hike, take some time to wander around both Clinton Lake and Perry Lake looking for Eagles! There are now many nesting pairs and plenty of juveniles flying around the lower 48 states and even here in Kansas! There are also some other interesting sights to be seen OUTSIDE so get out there and take a hike!
If you don’t want to miss the next Dirty Girl Adventure, sign up now in the Dirty Shop! There is an 8 Mile Hike on March 28th scheduled and BIG EXCITEMENT there is a Dirty Girl Get Away scheduled at the Lied Lodge and Indian Cave State Park in Nebraska in April (April 17th and 18th) and the Down and Dirty 3 Mile is April 25th! Get on over to the Dirty Shop and take a look!
2014 was full of some excellent adventures and great surprises. 2015 will be even better here at Dirty Girl Adventures! After a full year of existence, we will be more prepared, better organized and … more creative than ever at getting you and yours outside!
There are so many great places to visit and so many great people to meet that 2015 will be full of adventure. We are currently looking forward to our Custom Collage Workshop on January 11th. Pondering our vision for life in 2015, we decided that an inspirational and motivational collage would help us maintain focus on what is good.
Collaging is creative, fun and a thought process along the way! Dirty Girls who attend Refresh! our Retreat last fall enjoyed creating collages.
We are also really, really looking forward to our April Dirty Girls Get Away at the fabulous Lied Lodge and gorgeous Indian Cave State Park in Nebraska! Although it is several months away, the anticipation of a get away weekend in an awesome place with awesome women is already building!
This is the lobby of the Lied Lodge! Pretty gorgeous! It is owned and operated by the Arbor Day Foundation so it seems like a perfect place for a Dirty Girl Get Away!
We started the year off with an excellent “First Day Hike” at Perry State Hiking Biking Trails. 40 Dirty Peeps and Pets came together to start the New Year off on the trail! Great turn out and great morning to get our blood moving – it was 9*!! Think about the ways that you can get outside to move, to connect and to enjoy the world this year! What will you do this year? My goal is to hike 500 trail miles this year! I like goals that are positive, motivating and attainable. (Instead of those annoying goals that essentially say I’m not good enough the way I am right now!) I’m looking forward to focusing on the people and activities that I truly love and enjoy. I am cutting out some of the things that I no longer love doing so that I can more fully enjoy the things I love and want to do now. I acknowledge that even the things we love take work and are sometimes really challenging and miserable but even misery is better when it is attached to something we truly care about and love. We hope that you are able to find and cherish the people and activities that you love with quality time this year!
We also hope that you will include a plan to come outside with Dirty Girl Adventures this year. We can’t wait to see you! It’s going to be a great year!
It was a rainy week. The ground was wet and the air was cold. It was time to hike 29 miles in two days! This was a challenge and a joy enjoyed by Dirty Girls and other slightly strange people! Joking aside, it turned out to be a gorgeous weekend! All told, with some extra steps included, the fitbit wearing Dirty Girls agreed that our total mileage for the weekend was 32.75 miles – 18 on Saturday and 14.75 on Sunday!! WooHoo! Here are the pictures and a couple of cool stories to go along with them! Here are some pictures and highlights from our weekend! The Redy2Party Bus picked us up right on time at 8:30 Saturday morning. It was a crisp and cool morning, but bright and beautiful!
We had a great view of Perry Lake as we hiked the trail along the edge of the lake. We observed many migratory birds, including my favorite American White Pelican aka Black Wing-tipped Pelican. They are super cool! Check them out here! Their wingspan ranges from 6 to 9 feet!
Those of us at the front of the line enjoyed a few special sights. First, I fell within the first 10 minutes on the trail in an amazing and dramatic crash. WOW! The bruise is still really painful. Luckily, I’m the Dirty Mutha so I kept going! Second, we saw two foxes running and playing in the woods. When they saw us, they changed direction rapidly! They were awesome. (I had my camera in my hand and didn’t even raise it to my face!)
These are just a few of the brave and adventurous women who are members of tribe Dirty Girl! They looked a little more fresh and energetic at the beginning of the adventure that they did at the end but they seemed proud, confident and accomplished event though they were blistered and tired out! Most were covered with stick tights, poison ivy oils and some small amount of sweat along with their glory!
This is one of the gajillion interesting, weird and pretty cool fungus we saw along the trail. It is spiky and cool. It’s a puffer type fungi and when dry it will poof out spores.
The blue flashes mark the trail. If there are two stacked blue spots, they mark a turn. This trail is maintained by volunteers so while we hiked, we sprayed new signs along the path. I also have lovely blue overspray on my camera and watchband!
Dirty Girls had time for conversation and contemplation both while maintaining a steady pace over a rough and tough terrain. The diversity of our group is what makes it great. Women from all over northeast Kansas joined us for this adventure, coming together with determination and humor to enjoy the weekend together.
One of the things I have loved the most about this amazing adventure has been meeting and getting to know so many determined, adventurous, interesting, caring, motivated women. I have enjoyed quality friendships with a few women in my lifetime but this summer I have been able to add many more – more than I ever thought I would find in my lifetime. Some, I haven’t even begun to know but I can tell that they have much to offer. I am eager to continue to grow these friendships. They are enriching, energizing and inspiring to me!
This awesome dog – tribal name Dirty Dog – joined us for most of day 2. We attempted to track down her original owner and left information at the shelter and no one wanted her. This was a meant to be moment as Dirty Mama Jennifer had been wishing for a dog! Kiowa aka Dirty Dog, now has a loving home and a tribe of awesome Dirty Girls!
I kept telling them that we had 2 more miles to go … they were beginning to doubt! The official trail distance is 29 but with extras and detours we covered 32.75.
THE END! This is the group at the end of day 2 – what a great bunch!
Overall, it was a great adventure. We accomplished something difficult, challenging, enjoyable and strengthening – both physically and emotionally. We can do it! There are a million pictures to include but I have to stop somewhere so this is it! Photo credits to Dirty Girl Lorraine, Dirty Mama Jennifer and possibly a couple of other Dirty Girls!
Thanks to all of the Dirty Girls who joined us for this giant adventure! Thanks to the Dirty Mamas for all of their love and support and to the Dirty Minions for their help throughout the weekend.
See you on the trail! Love each and every one of you for your brave and adventurous determination and overall fabulosity!!
Denise aka Original Dirty Girl aka The Dirty Mutha!
