This is a rough trail with rocks, steep inclines and declines.  Short loop – 3 miles – available as well. Registration open to Dirty Girls and Dirty Dudes. Dinner will be served around the fire.  Bring a chair and your beverage of choice for time around the campfire.  This hike is located at the Perry Lake Hiking Biking Trails accessible via 74th street. Join us for the Spring Fling! Register HERE!

What is the Spring Fling?  It’s an 8 mile hike along the Perry Lake Trail!  The section that we will be hiking on March 28th, includes both fields and woodlands as we travel along the side of Lake Perry.  Below are all the Dirty Peeps who hiked with us on our very first hike last March 2014! We had a great time!  Although we won’t be hiking the same section of the Perry Lake Trail, I bet we will have another great time!  This hike is open to all Dirty Peeps – Dudes, Kids (must be able to hike 8 miles) and, of course, Dirty Girls!  DSCF4631 - Copy

The trail is rough and uneven with mild inclines/declines along the way.  We will expect to travel at a pace of about a 30 minute mile – give or take!  We will pause for snacks, rest and scenic views along the way!

When:  Saturday March 28th, 2015

Time:  Check-in between 9am and 9:30am

Pre-Register by 3-20!  $25 Regular Peeps, $20 Club Members (Includes bus ride, trail guide and support, snacks at the end) REGISTER HERE on the Dirty Shop under Events!  We will hike regardless of cold or snow – cancellation may occur due to wet conditions or severe weather.  Refunds are not available after the 20th as the bus and food will have been paid for by that date!

Where:  The Slough Creek Campground Group Camp Area at Lake Perry!

Wear/Bring:  Plan to wear long pants regardless of temperature.  The Perry Lake Trail is a wilderness trail and there will be brushy sections.  Bring water and snacks for along the trail   If you don’t have a hydration pack, a string bag or small back pack would be handy for water and a few good snacks.  Remember, we will be hiking 8 miles, that’s a lot of calories and energy expended.  You need both protein and some sugar to keep your energy flowing – good protein bars, trail mix, an apple!

The Basic Plan:  We will have feet on the trail by 10am and we should be relaxing around the campfire with some food and BYO beverages by 2ish. Dirty Girl Adventures will furnish a variety of snacks and water at the Campfire.  Plan to bring snacks and water for the hike!  You may choose to bring adult beverages to enjoy at the end of the hike.  Please plan to bring a chair for around the campfire!

A variety of shirts will be available on the day of the event!

Last year it was pretty chilly – who knows what this year will bring!

DSCF4642 Scenes from the trail 2014! It is already greener than last year was!

DSCF4641

We will be doing a different 8 mile section of the Perry Lake Trail than we did last March.  This section will take us from the north end of the trail back to Slough Creek Campground for hanging out by the fire.  We will make a stop at this awesome rock beach!

Hike with the Eagles – SOLD OUT!

I had the opportunity to pop the kayak into the Delaware River a couple of weeks ago.  It was a beautiful day and we enjoyed great company on the water!  We also saw this guy along the river banks.  He was posing just for us!

What a response, our Eagle Hike on February 28th is FULL!  We have mapped out two spots to take you that will provide some opportunity for quiet observation and watching Eagles as well as longer hiking.  We aim to please but please know that we can’t guarantee Eagle sightings!  It is MOST likely that we will see Eagles!  The Dirty Girl Club took a hike last weekend and we spotted 12 eagles, some of them up close!

10649671_10206346185440105_6574592770060376294_n

Dirty Girl Photographer Kembry Gibbs has taken some excellent photos and was willing to share them with me!  She is a patient watcher and has observed Eagles at play, feeding and taking care of the nest.  We are hoping to see some of these same activities on the 28th.

If you didn’t get signed up for this hike, take some time to wander around both Clinton Lake and Perry Lake looking for Eagles!  There are now many nesting pairs and plenty of juveniles flying around the lower 48 states and even here in Kansas! There are also some other interesting sights to be seen OUTSIDE so get out there and take a hike!

If you don’t want to miss the next Dirty Girl Adventure, sign up now in the Dirty Shop! Happy New Year Dirty Peeps!

2014 was full of some excellent adventures and great surprises.  2015 will be even better here at Dirty Girl Adventures!  After a full year of existence, we will be more prepared, better organized and … more creative than ever at getting you and yours outside!

DSCF3119

There are so many great places to visit and so many great people to meet that 2015 will be full of adventure.  We are currently looking forward to our Custom Collage Workshop on January 11th. Pondering our vision for life in 2015, we decided that an inspirational and motivational collage would help us maintain focus on what is good.

10801793_381852155322707_8954351069440448879_nCollaging is creative, fun and a thought process along the way! Dirty Girls who attend Refresh! our Retreat last fall enjoyed creating collages.

We are also really, really looking forward to our April Dirty Girls Get Away  at the fabulous Lied Lodge and gorgeous Indian Cave State Park in Nebraska!  Although it is several months away, the anticipation of a get away weekend in an awesome place with awesome women is already building!

This is the lobby of the Lied Lodge!  Pretty gorgeous!  It is owned and operated by the Arbor Day Foundation so it seems like a perfect place for a Dirty Girl Get Away!

imgres We started the year off with an excellent “First Day Hike” at Perry State Hiking Biking Trails.  40 Dirty Peeps and Pets came together to start the New Year off on the trail!  Great turn out and great morning to get our blood moving – it was 9*!!  Think about the ways that you can get outside to move, to connect and to enjoy the world this year! 10897750_381739122000677_3761082904389426175_nWhat will you do this year?  My goal is to hike 500 trail miles this year!  I like goals that are positive, motivating and attainable.  (Instead of those annoying goals that essentially say I’m not good enough the way I am right now!)  I’m looking forward to focusing on the people and activities that I truly love and enjoy.  I am cutting out some of the things that I no longer love doing so that I can more fully enjoy the things I love and want to do now.  I acknowledge that even the things we love take work and are sometimes really challenging and miserable but even misery is better when it is attached to something we truly care about and love.  We hope that you are able to find and cherish the people and activities that you love with quality time this year!

We also hope that you will include a plan to come outside with Dirty Girl Adventures this year. We can’t wait to see you!  It’s going to be a great year!

DSC_0248

$20 or $35 by 2/12/15 with T-shirt included

A chilly but scenic time to hike, February is THE prime time to see American Bald Eagles in their natural habitat – right here in Kansas! This hike will be progressive – we will start at one short trail, hike and view then carpool to the next viewing/hiking area and repeat! Hiking will be around Lake Perry Kansas and the Kansas River. We will assess the weather and choose our distance and specific locations accordingly as we get closer to the date. For now, plan to set aside 10am – 3pm for some quality time! Our goal at this time would be to meet at 10am and get our feet on the trail by 10:30am. We will likely travel about 3 miles then load up to carpool to our next location for another 3 miles. We may stop at a couple of excellent viewing spots as well. Most likely our total hiking distance will be 6-8 miles with at least one “warm up” time in the car as we travel to the next viewing/hiking spot. Our Check-in start and Finish will be a local eating and drinking establishment – comfortable for warming up and socializing post event!

Dirty Girls went ALL the Way!

It was a rainy week.  The ground was wet and the air was cold.  It was time to hike 29 miles in two days!  This was a challenge and a joy enjoyed by Dirty Girls and other slightly strange people!  Joking aside, it turned out to be a gorgeous weekend!  All told, with some extra steps included, the fitbit wearing Dirty Girls agreed that our total mileage for the weekend was 32.75 miles – 18 on Saturday and 14.75 on Sunday!!  WooHoo!  Here are the pictures and a couple of cool stories to go along with them! Here are some pictures and highlights from our weekend!  The Redy2Party Bus picked us up right on time at 8:30 Saturday morning.  It was a crisp and cool morning, but bright and beautiful!

DSCF5316

We had a great view of Perry Lake as we hiked the trail along the edge of the lake. We observed many migratory birds, including my favorite American White Pelican aka Black Wing-tipped Pelican.  They are super cool!  Check them out here!  Their wingspan ranges from 6 to 9 feet!

DSCF5320

Those of us at the front of the line enjoyed a few special sights.  First, I fell within the first 10 minutes on the trail in an amazing and dramatic crash.  WOW!  The bruise is still really painful.  Luckily, I’m the Dirty Mutha so I kept going!  Second, we saw two foxes running and playing in the woods.  When they saw us, they changed direction rapidly!  They were awesome.  (I had my camera in my hand and didn’t even raise it to my face!)

Dirty Girls! Monkey and Gadget Girl!

These are just a few of the brave and adventurous women who are members of tribe Dirty Girl!  They looked a little more fresh and energetic at the beginning of the adventure that they did at the end but they seemed proud, confident and accomplished event though they were blistered and tired out!  Most were covered with stick tights, poison ivy oils and some small amount of sweat along with their glory!

These brave girls came out for their first adventure for a 29 mile hike! Now THAT is amazing! Great getting to know them on the trail!

Dirty GIrls make great friends!

This is one of the gajillion interesting, weird and pretty cool fungus we saw along the trail. It is spiky and cool.   It’s a puffer type fungi and when dry it will poof out spores.

This cool flat grass is Inland Sea Oats.  Pretty!

DSCF5328The blue flashes mark the trail.  If there are two stacked blue spots, they mark a turn.  This trail is maintained by volunteers so while we hiked, we sprayed new signs along the path.  I also have lovely blue overspray on my camera and watchband!

One of the things I have loved the most about this amazing adventure has been meeting and getting to know so many determined, adventurous, interesting, caring, motivated women.  I have enjoyed quality friendships with a few women in my lifetime but this summer I have been able to add many more – more than I ever thought I would find in my lifetime.  Some, I haven’t even begun to know but I can tell that they have much to offer.  I am eager to continue to grow these friendships.  They are enriching, energizing and inspiring to me!

This awesome dog – tribal name Dirty Dog – joined us for most of day 2.  We attempted to track down her original owner and left information at the shelter and no one wanted her.  This was a meant to be moment as Dirty Mama Jennifer had been wishing for a dog!  Kiowa aka Dirty Dog, now has a loving home and a tribe of awesome Dirty Girls!

10704184_345259332315323_7522841142142303499_nI kept telling them that we had 2 more miles to go … they were beginning to doubt! The official trail distance is 29 but with extras and detours we covered 32.75.

Overall, it was a great adventure.  We accomplished something difficult, challenging, enjoyable and strengthening – both physically and emotionally.  We can do it!  There are a million pictures to include but I have to stop somewhere so this is it!  Photo credits to Dirty Girl Lorraine, Dirty Mama Jennifer and possibly a couple of other Dirty Girls!

Thanks to all of the Dirty Girls who joined us for this giant adventure!  Thanks to the Dirty Mamas for all of their love and support and to the Dirty Minions for their help throughout the weekend.

Yes! We got Down and Dirty for 3 miles!

Dirty Girls galore turned up for the event!  It was a special event designed for Dirty Girls only and sure enough, 67 Dirty Girls took the challenge!  We hit the Dirty Girl Camp at Lake Perry for some time around the fire.  Unfortunately, I was afraid to start the actual fire due to the wind but it didn’t matter.  Dirty Girls can meet, greet and cultivate conversation with or without a fire!

The woods were full of encouraging words as well as Redbuds bursting with bright flowers and cheerful WOO WOO’s of Dirty Girls.  The age range of Dirty Girls was from 6 to 71 years young!  You are all beautiful and wonderful and full of potential! Remember to take a break, refresh and rejuvenate! We are better at helping, working, supporting the ones we love and care about when we are healthy and strong emotionally, spiritually and physically.

What a beautiful group of strong, dedicated and brave women!  What great role models for our young, strong girls as they grow into adulthood!   It is important to show our girls how to relax, unplug and bond and share with other strong and capable women.

OHHH!!! And how to be silly!

Ponder this  … many girls grow up hearing their women role models (mothers, sisters, aunts, teachers and women friends)  disparage their own bodies.  From tiny self criticism and ongoing deep dissatisfactions with our own bodies, we fail to teach our girls to love themselves just the way they are.  Let’s teach them that it’s ok to be who and how they are and to love themselves at every age and stage of life.  We are all different and beautiful – easy to say but hard to truly live and believe.  Must. Keep. Practicing this!

Keep moving Dirty Girls!  Fast or slow, you get out there and take some steps!  Move your bodies and move your minds!  This is not because we don’t love who we are right now, today but because we DO LOVE ourselves and we deserve to be well cared for by ourselves!  Think of this handy Dirty Girl RULE … Don’t say something about your own body that you wouldn’t say to your best Dirty Girl friend to her face!  Really!  Share to positive heartfelt love and praise you share with others with yourself!

OH!  Don’t forget to be silly!

See you on the next Dirty Girl Adventure!  xoxoxoxoxo

Another 8 Miles Recapped!

Better late than never!  I have been remiss in writing up some adventure stories over the past few months!  April 6th was a glorious weather day and the perfect day for our second 8 mile section of the Perry Lake Trail.  We started at Hog Holler Saloon to check in and load up the Party Hike Bus and head to the trailhead for the day.  We enjoyed a warm and gorgeous spring day along the trail.  53 hikers took the trail for this adventure!  Over hill and dale we tramped through the woods of Northeast Kansas.

Dirty Girls, Dirty Dudes and Dirty Kids discovered the great outdoors, new friends and interesting sights along the trail.  The terrain was pretty mild in comparison to the previous section of the trail so we moved pretty quickly, covering the 8 miles in less than three hours!

Dirty Girls and their Dirty Peeps don’t give up.  Instead, they work to know their own needs and pace.  It is important to challenge ourselves to improve but it is also important to acknowledge and celebrate the accomplishments along the way.  If your distance is 1 mile, 3 miles or 8 miles you deserve a WOO WOO for getting your butt off the couch, out of the house and onto the trail!  Keep it moving!  Catch up with a Dirty Peep and get it moving!

Check out these gorgeous and adventurous Dirty Kids!  The rock beach along the trail is a highlight of this section.  I am planning to spend a bit of time relaxing here this summer, possibly with my kayak!

The Perry Lake Trail is maintained by a volunteer organization called The Kansas Trail Council.  What a great group of workers!  We are loving the trail and the adventure their work allows us! Plus, these bridges are a great photo opp!

The coolest thing about a Dirty Girl Adventure is that it is full of fabulous!  We are all supportive of each other, accepting of differences and invested in quality time for ourselves and each other.  We are not just exercising, we are exploring!  There is quite a bit of WOOO WOO-ing along the trail as well as random guessing as to how far we have traveled!  We were happy to have a couple of support stops along the tail to refill our water and ring the cow bell to celebrate our progress.  Thanks to the Dirty Minions and the Token Male!  It’s always nice to have support and encouragement along the journey!

While we were at Hog Holler, we enjoyed a variety of food and beverages and CHECK THIS OUT!!  We are on the register with a 20% Discount!  It’s like we’re famous or something!  Thanks Clay for the Dirty Girl Discount on event days!  Hog Holler is a great venue!  It was very rewarding to be greeted and cheered by various folks when we arrived.  Two Dirty Girls joined up after watching the fun times as we rolled into Hog Holler!  Yay!  The Dirty Girls can’t wait for some hot summer days on the porch post kayaking!

Stay tuned for more great Adventure Stories from Dirty Girl Adventures!  Next up, the Down and Dirty 3 Mile – and oh, what a story that is!

Anybody can be a Dirty Girl!

It’s true!  Well, technically, I guess guys can only be Dirty Dudes but you know what I mean!  Dirty Girls come in different shapes and sizes and different fitness levels as well.  We run, we walk really fast (I have long legs), we jog, we hike slowly.  Sometimes it’s a kick butt, hardcore workout and other times it is a hike intended to truly enjoy and take in the sights and sounds of the trail as well as the company of our peers. (Both of these are a workout.)  We all have a different definition of what that kick butt work out is to us and we all have a different need when we hit the trail or the water.  It just depends on what will refresh and invigorate us at any given moment.

We have been having a wide variety of Dirty People turn up for the free trail hikes and we LOVE that!!  It seems like a few Dirty Girls might be feeling a little “less than” because they are slower that others.  THAT IS NOT THE GOAL OF THIS!  By coming out, by showing up, by joining in you are all AMAZING!  By getting yourself out and moving in the great outdoors you are taking care of business!  Remember, we are in this because we are taking good care of ourselves!!  Dirty Girls or Dirty Dudes, our goals are varied – fitness, fresh air, fun, adventure, friends!  Don’t let your fitness level keep you home!  If you walk a quarter mile in the time it takes me to walk a mile it doesn’t matter!  We both moved for all the right reasons!!

Don’t hold yourself back!!  Don’t let negative self talk slow you down!  Don’t compare yourself to anyone else just do what you can do and take good care of yourself!!  This means physically and emotionally.  For me, going outside is relaxing and energizing and refreshing. Hosting trail hikes and other outdoor adventures helps by providing accountability and good company!  Grab a Dirty Girl and get outside!!  Feel empowered and energized!  Get stronger!DSCF4338
